While "Mystic Mountain" is primarily focused on Spirituality, it also provides resources and links to other interesting sites and opportunities. In this prosperity section my ambition is to unveil my understanding of Internet offerings and to present useful information about the complicated relationship between Home Business and the Internet.

In the past, I attempted several network marketing (MLM) companies, including some online. Rather than make money, I actually lost thousands of dollars. Why? The opportunities were not really legitimate. While they were "legal" and some people did appear to become wealthy, they were often misleading about the investment of time, energy and financial resources that were required.

The truth is that a home business is a daunting task; there are thousands of Internet "gurus" offering glamorous "opportunities" and the latest and greatest software that promises sure and easy success. What is most often lacking is integrity and honesty. I have found that a successful home business requires one to invest cautiously, work hard, follow directions and learn vital Internet skills from a trustworthy source.

I caution anyone who is considering an Internet based Home Business to NOT buy anything initially. The Web is filled with unscrupulous Internet "gurus" who know how to manipulate people into spending money (and getting nothing, really). The old adage about buying "a pig in a poke" applies directly to the Internet. Anytime you receive an email or run onto a Web page that shows a long video or huge headline about "software" or claims to "make $$$$" in a short time is probably an attempt to sell people something that they probably can not use.

Beware of prices like $27, $37, $47 or $97!!! That is only the tip of the iceberg. After that amount is paid, the next offer will be for $199, $299 or more! Websites that are already "set up for you" are usually set up to make money for other people. Web offers with integrity do not commonly charge $50 to set-up or join and then $19.95 or $39.95 per month after that. Watch for "free" sites that require an upgrade for any real benefit. Huge, red or yellow fonts, copies of checks or bank accounts, endless Web pages and hour-long videos are red flags. While sales pages are purposely designed to perk the viewer's interest, if the sales pitch takes longer than a few minutes, then it is likely a set-up.

Systems with integrity do not usually require any up-front costs. Most offer a free trial, after which a person can opt out. In these systems, explanatory emails (and obvious "unsubscribe" options) are offered, financial commitments and upgrades are optional and ways to continue at a low-cost or on a free basis are available. In addition, these sites provide training programs, step-by-step instructions and access to assistance from more experienced marketers in the organization. One such site is Global Domains International, which is hosting this website.

My recommendation for anyone seeking long-term, reliable residual income online is this: KISS! (Keep It Simple, Silly!) The Internet is as vast as the ocean and a person can certainly drown without a seaworthy ship guided by an experienced captain. It is necessary to narrow one's interests down to the basics and focus one's energy on one direction. Further, it is imperative to set a monthly spending limit and stick to it. Finally, one must avoid chasing too many rabbits. While "multiple streams of income" may be a good thing, it is very easy to spread ones efforts too thinly.

I encourage you to check out GDI. It provides the dual benefits of a personal website and an ongoing income source, which are necessary for success on the Web. Most who work both of these in tandem are more likely than not to build a substantial residual income in due time. "Mystic Mountain" (this Web site) was created using GDI, which in turn is being promoted on the Web. This is the kind of Internet system in which one can have confidence. By working cautiously and diligently with these programs, even an inexperienced Internet marketer has an excellent chance to be successful.
